Americans escaping heat with "coolcations"
Some Americans are beating the summer heat this year by going on so-called "coolcations." Instead of soaking in the sun and hitting hotspots like the beach, travelers are opting for areas that are a bit more cooled off this time of year by heading north, according to Condé Nast Traveler. Erin Florio, executive editor of Condé Nast Traveler, joined CBS News to discuss the trend.
Biden says war in Gaza must end now
Dozens of bodies have reportedly been found in the rubble of Gaza City in the midst of Israel's latest offensive there. The discovery comes as both Israel and Hamas blame each other for undercutting cease-fire talks and President Biden calls for an immediate end to the fighting. CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams has more.
Meta loosening VR chat rules for kids
Meta is making a big change in policy for its virtual reality Quest Headsets, opening up chat features to kids between 10 and 12 years old as long as they have parental approval. Previously, Meta wouldn't allow anyone under the age of 13 to use the headsets. Emma Roth, a news writer for The Verge, joined CBS News to discuss the change.
U.S. to resume sending Israel 500-pound bombs
A U.S. official says the Biden administration will release a shipment of 500-pound bombs to Israel that they've withheld since May over concerns about how the munitions could be used. The move comes as Israel issues a new evacuation order for Gaza City as part of another offensive there. CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams has more.
"Miracle" dog found, rescued from cave
Cavers in western Virginia rescued a dog found 40 to 50 feet down in a cave Sunday, wrapping the pup in blankets and improvising a dog harness to haul it out, according to the Associated Press. A local shelter took the dog in.

President Biden is holding a highly anticipated solo press conference Thursday evening in hopes it will assuage the ongoing concerns Democratic lawmakers have voiced about his fitness for office and campaign viability. CBS News intelligence and national security reporter Olivia Gazis has more.
Closing arguments in Menendez bribery trial
Closing arguments will continue Wednesday in Sen. Bob Menendez's bribery trial. So far Menendez's lawyers have been suggesting the senator's wife, Nadine Menendez, accepted gifts without his knowledge and that they were not bribes. CBS News legal contributor Rebecca Roiphe has more.
Israel tells Gaza City residents to evacuate
Israel has been dropping leaflets on Gaza City telling residents there to evacuate as the new IDF ground invasion in the city continues. The evacuation order comes after dozens in southern Gaza were reportedly killed in a strike on a school that had been converted into a shelter. BBC News correspondent Nick Beake joined CBS News with more.
